For Constitution Day 2025, Jack Byrd from CSI NYPIRG and Professor Jonathan Cope will discuss the importance of voter registration for this upcoming NYC election in November 2025. In addition, we will hold a film screening of the film Emergent City (2024) (1 hr 41 mins) about the gentrification of Sunset Park in Brooklyn. Below is a description of the film.  Residents of Sunset Park face a tangled web of rising rents, a legacy of environmental racism and the loss of the industrial jobs that once sustained their community. When a global developer purchases Industry City - a massive industrial complex on the waterfront - and begins to transform it into an “innovation district,” a battle erupts over the future of the neighborhood and of New York City itself.
